The Swiss Quantum Call 2026, part of the Swiss Quantum Initiative (SQI), will support outstanding quantum research projects with strong scientific excellence and long-term societal and technological impact. An estimated CHF 16 million is available, subject to approval of Relief Package 27.
Funding is open to independent research projects in:
- quantum communication,
- quantum computation,
- quantum simulation,
- quantum sensing/metrology.
Eligibility requirements and special features of the call:
- The call follows the general principles of the SNSF’s Project Funding scheme.
- Researchers based in Switzerland are eligible for funding if they meet the eligibility requirements.
- Applicants should highlight the long-term impact of their research beyond academia. The call primarily supports projects at low to intermediate Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs).
- Early-career researchers are strongly encouraged to apply and have equal chances of success as established researchers.
- In projects with three or more applicants, an international collaborator may participate if their expertise is indispensable and not available in Switzerland.
- Projects may request up to CHF 400,000 for equipment, and up to 40% of the grant may be allocated to project partners and subcontractors.
The call aims to strengthen application-oriented quantum research, support early-career researchers, foster collaboration, and address infrastructure needs. Proposals must be submitted via the SNSF Portal; applicants are advised to create an account well before the deadline.
For full details on eligibility, submission, and evaluation, please refer to the call document. General SNSF regulations also apply.
