New semester, new coffee!

Join us for the next Sustainable Space Hub coffee on September 11th, 13:00 in BC 410 (EPFL Campus).

This time, we will have a short presentation from Niki Sajjad, a visiting PhD student who has spent one year at EPFL.
In her PhD research, Niki focuses on the feasibility of using computer vision to estimate the 6D pose of very small satellites, such as PocketQubes, during conjunctions at distances greater than 1 km, rather than during proximity operations. Her work has important implications for in-orbit applications like Active Debris Removal and On-Orbit Servicing. The research involves analyzing feasible orbits, creating an annotated image dataset with realistic blurring artifacts, and evaluating a machine-learning algorithm for accurate pose estimation.During her time at EPFL, Niki also created a laboratory setup to simulate conjunctions and close proximity manoeuvrers. The equipment consists of a dark room with a Sun simulator and a robotic arm. Since the setup is located just below BC 410, the room where the SSH coffee will take place, we will use the opportunity to visit the lab for a small demonstration after her talk. And of course we will also have delicious cookies by
