The United States has a long history of apprenticeship going back to the start of our nation. However, since the 1940s, a University degree has become more of the prerequisite to success. Ambassador Suzi and Eric LeVine will share the history of apprenticeship in the United States and how European models, and especially the Swiss model, are inspiring an apprenticeship renaissance that enables more people in the United States to succeed.

As an example of the permeability that Switzerland has built into their system and that we believe is essential in the United States, the Universities know how to receive the credentials of apprentices and are even apprentice employers. For example, we know one young man who did his IT apprenticeship and then, inspired by his experience, is now studying at EPFL for his computer science PhD.
