Celebration of the International Day of Light

The EPFL Photonics Chapter is glad to announce and invite you to the Celebration of the International Day of Light (IDL) at EPFL.
Following the purposes of the International Year of Light in 2015, this initiative was proclaimed by UNESCO to promote the progress and promise of light technologies and research, and to raise awareness about their importance to humankind.

The EPFL IDL celebration will take place on May 16^th in SV 1717 starting at 5.15 PM.
For this occasion, we will have the pleasure of listening to Prof. Demetri Psaltis (Laboratory of Optics, EPFL) who will give a lecture entitled "Optics at the forefront of technology".
 
Moreover, we are glad to open the the EPFL "International Day of Light" Photo Contest, whose winners will be selected and announced during the apero that will follow the lecture.
The theme we propose is  "Light in science, art, and everyday life". The idea is simple: send your photo related to the theme of light to [email protected] no later than Sunday, 13th of May. The photos will be exhibited in the hall during the apero and voted by the public. The best three photos will be rewarded with FNAC gifts card (100, 70 and 40 CHF), so don’t hesitate to send yours! Further information and rules can be found here​.
