The International Sustainable Campus Excellence Awards recognize sustainability excellence from International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) members across the world. Given annually, these awards show case sustainability initiatives that demonstrate leadership, creativity and outstanding performance in Higher Education Institutions.

All interested EPFL students and staff are invited to join us online for the ISCN Awards Ceremony to celebrate and learn from the outstanding achievements of the 2021 ISCN Award Winners. The Winners will present their winning initiatives, followed by an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

2021 ISCN Award Winners:
Whole Systems Approach: Covenant University PET City Bricks
The Covenant University Enactus project "Pet-City" is a social enterprise in alignment with development agencies tackling the problem of plastic waste, marine litter and micro plastic pollution. The over-arching objective is the transformation of single-use plastic and nylon waste into sustainable materials that are cost-effective and durable.

Partnerships for Progress: University of Leeds Urban Biodiversity Monitoring Programme
Through the University of Leeds’ unique Living Lab, a collaborative approach to biodiversity monitoring was developed as an exemplar of biodiversity across the University. We created learning opportunities to tackle local and global challenges, using the campus as a test bed for innovative student-led research.

Cultural Change for Sustainability: National University of Singapore Towards Zero-Waste NUS 2030
In 2030, NUS will have Zero Waste Precincts where the community conscientiously sort their waste to recycle and reuse resulting in a high diversion rate, inspiring the country to take bolder steps towards achieving zero waste. Students lead by test-bedding scalable zero waste interdisciplinary solutions in campus infrastructure and operations.

Honorary Member Award: Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology – Facilitating Sustainability Literacy to Leadership Pathways for Staff and Students
The project will facilitate learning pathways for both staff and students in the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology to transition from sustainability literacy to sustainability leadership through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals. This will support ongoing efforts to embed sustainability more holistically across the Institute.
