Sexism and sexual harassment are a reality in the academic landscape. To prevent and deal with sexual harassment in our study and work environments, we need to reflect on our own behaviour, in an evolving society, respect the boundaries of others and take responsibility for ourselves and our fellow colleagues, staff, and students. Reacting when witnessing sexism or harassment is however anything but easy.

On the occasion of the second Sexual Harassment Awareness Day (SHAD) launched by swissuniversities on April 25, and in order to help the EPFL community learn how to prevent and act against harassment, the Trust and Support Network (TSN) and the Equal Opportunity Office (VPT-EGA) proposed a two-fold action:

1. Take one hour to complete the e-learning "You are not alone. Promoting Respect".

2. Participate in the Theatre forum “Coffee Machine”, which will give the audience the opportunity to intervene and become "specta(c)tors".

The play “Coffee Machine” is based on research carried out by Dr. Kléa Faniko at the University of Geneva. It lasts 2 hours with 30 minutes at the end for Q&A and discussion that tends to be very insightful. Here is a website for those who are interested in learning more about it.

  • The session on May 2 is intended for professors and staff in managerial roles.

The aim is to be able to share among peers. A session for PhD candidates, post-docs and administrative and technival staff was organised on April 25.
We hope that many of you will sign up beyond your gender.

Sandwiches will be available for participants.
